LO4: Editing Contents Page

This is a screen shot of me setting up a single page for the contents on InDesign. From the magazine I have measured (Vogue). The width was set to 220mm and the height was set to 285. I made sure I have 3 columns and spaced them out to 4mm, gutter. After that I measured the bleed to 3mm, so I made sure I set the bleed to 3mm.

I downloaded my font from Dafont onto InDesign, so I was consistent with my house style and typography. The font was called N and was the font for my masthead. I used the text tool to type on InDesign. The font is serif as this suits my target audience and genre of my magazine.

I then download another font from Dafont called Modo. This font was also serif styled font, which went well with the genre of the magazine and was appealing to the target audience. By using the text tool I was able to type and place my font where I wanted to.

This is a screen shot of me playing with the font size, as well as the boldness of the font. I chose the size 14 as it was clear to read from a distance, but wasn't to big that the page looked over crowded.

This is a screenshot of the progress I had made so far for my contents page. As you can see I have lined up my image  to fit in the columns. I have used a bold impact font for "Retro grade" and made the font bigger than the rest of the texts. I used a font called minion pro for the main text on my contents. I changed the colour to a maroon red, which was ideal for the target audience. I changed the colour to maroon for the main stories in each column.

Here you can see the progress I have made. I have lined up two more photos. The top photo covers three columns and is the main photo for my contents page. The second photo is lined up to the middle column at the bottom. I changed the font styles to all free headings, as magazines I have looked at do this. I have also added the month my magazine will be out in a small font next to the title.

I have highlighted the main heading and changed the colour to the maroon to keep the house style of my magazine consistent.

Here I added my final photo and started to line it up. I placed it in the 1st column on the page the same size as the other 2 images in their columns.

I started to write my contents in my last column I edited, I used the same fonts (minion pro). I put the headline in capital letters to connote importance.

I changed the colours of the page number to a maroon colour, as from my house style this was a colour I chose for my colour scheme. I also changed headlines to a maroon colour to connote importance.

Here by using the text tool I was able to anchor a quote onto my main cover image for my contents page. I used the colour white as it contrasted with the background, making it stand out. I have used this font       as it is serif, which will be appealing for the target audience and suits the genre of the magazine. Underneath the quote I have attached the page number and title below, so that readers will be able to find the specific article easier.

By using the shape tool bar I was able to create to rectangles on the side of my contents page. I changed the colours of these shapes to maroon to fit in with my house style. The reason for adding these shapes is ton add detail and to remove negative space.

Here I have used the shape tool to create boxes around main titles to make them stand out and more appealing for the target audience. I changed the colour to these boxes as the maroon that was from my house style. I have also added extra text at the bottom, which has two different font styles and sizes. I used this font for FUSION as it is my masthead font and this for the rest of the text.

I decide to get rid of the extra text at the bottom and box and change it to information on a online digital edition.

Here is a screenshot of me improving the boxes as I had made for main cover lines. I made sure the boxes were the same size and the text were the same size.

Here is a two  screenshot of the progress I had made.

This is a screenshot of me fitting in my URBAN TREND heading into the box I had created by using the shape tool.

LO4: Editing double spread page title page

This is a screen record of me editing my Double spread page title page.

Firstly I made a new document with a width of 240mm and a height of 285mm as the magazine Vogue I had measured had these measurements. I then upload the photo I wanted from my title page onto the document. I wanted the model on the right side of the page; however the image wasn't big enough and she ended up in the centre right. To avoid this I duplicated a section from the far left of the image and added it to the end. This caused a problem as you could see it didn't match the photo. So I used the smudge tool to blend to two together as well as the blur. I then used the text tool to add "Queen of the streets", the fonts did not work. I went onto Dafont and found a font I liked, so I screen grabbed these and placed them onto my photo. My first intension was to get rid of the white background, so I just had the font, but I liked the white background as it gave a ripped paper effect. To make the rip paper effect even better I used the burn tool to darken the edges, which reflected the urban grunge genre as it was broken and vandalised. I then used the blur tool around the left bottom corner to add a quote, which I put in white. The blur tool out focused the image in that particular area.

Editing after feedback

To get this circle shape, I went on the shape tool, eclipse and placed this shape onto my image. I then went onto the text tool and typed "Free" "Fashion" "Magazine" and then merged all 4 of these layers to make them into one. After that I used the magic wand tool to select the words and clicked delete to delete the text; this created the circle to read out the words.

By using the shape tool, eclipse I was able to create this black circle. I changed the opacity of this shape as the black was very dominant on my page.

This is a close up of the text I selected and deleted. The background and circle reads the text. I changed the colour of the circle to white by clicking the paint bucket tool. I changed it to white as it contrasted with the background making it stand out, which is appealing to my target audience.

Using the text I was able to put text into the black circle I created. I then used the shape tool to create a box which I put in the circle to make the Topshop stand out, which will be more appealing for the target audience. I changed the 20% to purple to again make it stand out. This is appealing to my target audience as it is for young women and the offer will be used by them. I also placed the free fashion magazine circle, so I could add more texts about articles.

I selected the free fashion magazine layer and double clicked to create a drop shadow.
By altering the distance and speed it created a glowing shadow, so that the circle stood out. It was important that it stood out as it was advertising that it was free and a fashion genre magazine, which would appeal to my target audience being young females.

By clicking on my masthead layer I was able to create a drop shadow. Altering the speed and distance created a glow underneath the text, which created the effect of a shadow. I then turned down the opacity of the masthead as the white was to harsh. It was important that the masthead was the biggest sized font and had serif font, as this appeals to my target audience being young female as it connotes sophistication and elegance.

By using the paint bucket tool I was able to change the "20" to black instead of white. I then created a bullet point by using the shape tool eclipse. After that I used the text tool to create text. I then went to change the text colour to black.

I decided to change the "20" to lilac by using the paint bucket tool as it stood out more. By using the shape tool I was able to create a box where I put my new text in. I then changed the text and bullet point to white by using the paint bucket tool. I did this to to make it stand out, appealing to my target audience.

LO4: Final Articles

Breakfast at FUSION

Living a glamorous Audrey Hepburn life, but with a modern twist.
W
hat is the first thing that pops into your head when you hear Audrey Hepburn? Is it the fact she wore a Givenchy dress in the first scene of Breakfast at Tiffany’s? Is it Breakfast at Tiffany’s or Roman Holiday? To me, it’s her glamorous iconic fashion, which some people say died with her. I have always wondered what Audrey Hepburn would be like in this era, how her glamour would have altered to fit in the new fashion that is growing to this day. I mean I wouldn’t picture Audrey in the new Urban ripped jeans, bomber jacket style, but I would imagine her being in a modernised formal casual look. Audrey herself outshined the character she played in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Holly, who was unbelievably glamorous and fabulous, Audrey became a huge glamour icon, which was her own personal touch.

Right now I am sat watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s, with my cat Bluebell, just admiring the natural beauty of her. Holly and Audrey are very similar when it comes to their fashion sense, as they both look a million dollars.

She lived every fashion stylists dream. Could you just imagine being covered in real diamonds, pearls, Chanel, Dior and Prada? If it was me I would strut down the streets showing off my expensive glamorous fashion, but instead I settle for stylish trends such as TopShop and River Island, I may once in a while treat myself to a Louis Vuitton bag or Chloe but that’s my limit!
Now back to the modern Audrey Hepburn. I had this crazy Idea to recreate what I, personally thought would be the modern Audrey Hepburn, because she is irreplaceable. Audrey wasn’t just known for her style; Audrey touched a lot of people. She had a kind huge heart and opened up to many people and was an inspiration.

Audrey was a very sophisticated character. She was elegantly posed, at the same time dominating. She was the queen of the street and I have been so inspired by her, she composes herself in a way that presents her as a role model, to young women everywhere.

I felt so elegant but powerful. The fashion was so beautiful and stylish.

In this era, Audrey would still be obsessive over high designers such as Tiffany and Co and Chanel; however I think the casual look of hers would change. Whether Audrey was going to a movie premiere or was just going on a day out, her exaggerated glamour would be carried with her, but in this day and age I think she would have been subtler. As the saying the simpler the better, she would go with it. The exquisite love dress worn by Hannah Mansell in the top and bottom left corners are elegant and classy, which would catch Audrey’s eye. The shortness of the dress shows how it is from a modern era. The big oversized checked H&M coat adds to and reflects some of Audrey’s pervious styles in her era, but works well with this dress, creating a new stylish look. The plunge neck French connection dress (£220) worn on the previous page will connote provocativeness; however how the model portrays the dress makes it look so classy but dominating at the same time is just like what Audrey did! This is what I was wanting!

LO4: Analog Photoshoot

There were many reasons why I was inspired to do an Analog shoot for my magazine, I liked the effort what went into making the negatives then producing the images. The reason why I thought this would be good for my magazine is one: It makes my magazine more unique and different from other, as most magazine use digital photography. As well I did the Analog for my Audrey Hepburn double page spread. Audrey Hepburn was around when Analog photography was being used, so I thought it would be a great idea to use this for her double page spread.

LO4: Editing Double page spread InDesign

This is a screen record of me editing a little part of my Breakfast at Fusion double page spread.

I first made a new document on Photoshop with the measurements 440mm and 285mm as this was the measurements from the magazine Vogue that I measured. I then dragged my image onto the document. I wanted the model on the right side of the page; however this left a white space on the left side. I duplicated the image and dragged the bottom layer to the left hand corner, so there wasn't any space. I used the smudge tool to blend together the two images, as well as using the clone tool to even the photo out. After this I used the text tool to create my Breakfast at Fusion title. I used this font for breakfast at and this for fusion.

This is a screen shot of my double page spread placed in InDesign. There is there columns on each page ready for the text.

This is a progress shot of me writing up my article in columns. I used the text tool to create text boxes. I lined each text box to the columns I created in InDesign.

This is a screenshot of me setting my text placement to the left. I have also changed the bar tools setting so I can set my first letter of my article larger than the rest.

This is a screen shot of me changing the font size of the letter "w", which is the first letter of my article. The reason why I have done this is because magazines I have previously looked at have done the same. It is also appealing for my target audience.

This is a screenshot to show the letter W bigger than the rest of my text. It makes the article stand out, making it appealing to my target audience.

Here I am changing the colour of my letter W to white so that the text is readable. I also turn down the opacity of the letter, so that it isn't too harsh.

Here I am placing my first picture into my single spread page. I have placed it between two columns and I have set the display performance to high quality, so it looks like a professional magazine.

I have added another image from my Audrey Hepburn shoot and placed this over two columns.

I have anchored text on this image. It is a quote from Audrey Hepburn, which works well with the article as well as appealing to the target audience as she was a fashion icon. I then changed the font size to make it stand out.

From a magazine I have looked at, Vogue, I saw that they had "inVogue" on a lot of pages. To show magazine conventions I did this on this page.

This is another screen grab of me anchoring text onto an image. I have used the text tool to create a text box. I used this font as it connotes elegance, which suits what the article informs.

This is a screenshot of my progress on creating my columns.

I created another text box with the text tool onto my second page. I placed it right at the bottom ready to place my analog  photo. I used these fonts as serif connotes sophistication, and this matches with Audrey Hepburn and my target audience.
